Fundraising Event for the Community

The first EGGS ‘Eye Go Game Spotting’ competition was won by ‘Scrambled Eggs’ led by Alex Rostocil, narrowly beating the home team; Sarova of Taita Hills.

Each vehicle had thirty hours to spot as many different varieties of game, birds, dung and plants. Each new ‘spot’ had to be photographed as proof and points were awarded. Among the rare species found were aardwolf, pangolin, civet, wild cat, lion and porcupine.

The event was strongly supported by KWS, East African Breweries and Sarova Hotels. Because it was the first year, people did not really understand the event and a there was a disappointing turn out but LUMO benefitted from the construction of a camp site with hot and cold running water. This is intended for use by the Sanctuary for large groups, schools etc; all of whom can learn so much about this successful venture of how to work with wildlife for the community.

In future years we expect to raise far more and the local Eye Centre in Mwatate, a satellite branch of Kwale District Eye Centre, will be the major beneficiaries. This year the event will take place again on the third weekend of October. Come and join in the fun.
