Building Infrastructure for Safer Landscapes and Thriving Communities
Earlier this year, in February, LUMO Conservancy began construction of its Security Operations Room, a major milestone in our ongoing mission to safeguard wildlife and support the communities that share the Tsavo landscape. This initiative, made possible through the generous support of the Emeritus Philanthropic Foundation, represents a forward-looking investment in the safety, monitoring, and protection of LUMO’s 48,000-acre conservancy.
A well-equipped Security Operations Room is not just a physical structure—it is the heart of a modern conservation security system. In a landscape where human-wildlife interactions are continually evolving, this facility is essential for ensuring the safety of both wildlife and people.
With this new hub, LUMO will be able to:
-
Enhance monitoring across the conservancy, using technology and coordination to prevent poaching, illegal encroachment, and other threats to wildlife.
-
Coordinate effectively among security teams, rangers, and local stakeholders, ensuring that every patrol and intervention is informed and strategic.
By centralizing surveillance and communication, the Security Operations Room ensures that every part of the conservancy benefits from a cohesive, well-organized approach to conservation security.
Since construction began in February, work has steadily progressed, laying the foundation for a facility that will integrate modern technology, advanced communication systems, and centralized monitoring capabilities. Once operational, the Security Operations Room will serve as a central hub for surveillance, coordination, and rapid response, helping LUMO respond to threats with precision and speed.
