LUMO Community Wildlife Conservancy held its Special General Meeting (SGM) on August 2, 2025, providing an opportunity to reflect on the past year, engage in dialogue, and discuss priorities for the year ahead.

During the meeting, the conservancy highlighted the importance of sustained and emerging partnerships in supporting conservation and community goals. These collaborations were noted as critical in positioning LUMO as a model for community-led conservation, and in strengthening its capacity to address challenges such as climate threats, resource limitations, and evolving land-use pressures.
The meeting also reflected on progress made in 2024, which laid the groundwork for the launch of LUMO’s Management Plan in early 2025. The plan was described as a shared vision for the conservancy’s growth, rooted in sustainability, inclusivity, and long-term impact. Attendees noted that it represents a milestone not only for LUMO but for the broader Tsavo landscape.

A key development during the SGM was the election of a new board, following the completion of the outgoing board’s term. Members welcomed Mr. Bedan Mwalalwa as the incoming Chairperson, along with the full board team. The new leadership was recognized as pivotal in upholding LUMO’s values and advancing the conservancy’s mandate as a protector of biodiversity and a driver of community development.
The meeting reaffirmed LUMO’s commitment to participatory governance, transparency, and the principle that communities must remain central to conservation efforts.
The SGM was reported to have strengthened clarity on LUMO’s priorities and reinforced the conservancy’s strategic direction for the coming years. Through collaborative partnerships, strong governance, and community engagement, the organization continues to work towards a resilient and sustainable landscape where wildlife and communities thrive together.
