Our Causes
Our Initiatives save critically endangered wildlife from habitat loss & poaching.
Wildlife conservation is vital for maintaining healthy ecosystems, as each species plays a crucial role in the intricate web of life. By conserving wildlife, we safeguard biodiversity, preserve genetic diversity, and ensure the long-term sustainability of our planet. Moreover, wildlife conservation has far-reaching benefits, including ecological balance, scientific research opportunities, cultural preservation, and the promotion of sustainable livelihoods for local communities. It is a collective responsibility to protect and conserve wildlife, preserving our natural heritage for future generations.

Become a guardian
Giraffes are fast disappearing in our conservation area. Without urgent action these kind giants could be gone within a generation.
Our Challenges
Wildlife sanctuaries face several challenges in their mission to protect and conserve biodiversity. LUMO Community Wildlife Sanctuary has identified these common and recurring bottle-necks that hinder greatly the our conservation efforts.
Poaching
High cases of giraffe and zebra poaching pose a significant threat to the conservation efforts. Poachers target these animals for their valuable body parts, such as skins and bones, which are often sold on the illegal wildlife trade market. The loss of these key species disrupts the ecosystem's balance and affects the entire food chain.
Human-Wildlife Conflict
The interaction between wildlife and the local community can lead to conflicts. When wild animals, such as elephants or lions, enter human settlements or destroy crops and property, it can lead to fear and frustration among the local residents. This conflict often results in retaliatory actions against the animals and hinders conservation efforts.
Education and Awareness
Many people might not fully understand the importance of wildlife conservation and the role these animals play in the ecosystem. Raising awareness and providing education about the value of giraffes, zebras, and other wildlife can foster a sense of responsibility and stewardship among community members.
Community Engagement
Effective wildlife conservation requires the engagement and cooperation of local communities. If these communities do not see direct benefits from conservation efforts or feel that their concerns are not being addressed, it can lead to a lack of cooperation and even resistance to conservation initiatives.
Lack of Resources
Insufficient resources for anti-poaching efforts, such as funding for ranger patrols, equipment, and monitoring technology, has hindered the conservancy's ability to effectively combat poaching. Without proper resources, it's challenging to monitor and protect the wildlife adequately.
Climate Change
Climate change has indirect impacts on wildlife conservation by altering habitats, affecting migration patterns, and contributing to food and water scarcity, which can all impact the survival of giraffes, zebras, and other animals.
Our Response
Addressing these challenges requires concerted efforts from governments, organizations, local communities, and individuals. It involves implementing sustainable land-use practices, strengthening anti-poaching measures, promoting education and awareness, establishing protected areas, supporting local communities, and advocating for stronger conservation policies at national and international levels. Collaboration and a shared commitment to conservation are crucial for overcoming these challenges and ensuring a sustainable future for wildlife.
"Wildlife conservation is like a vibrant dialogue among the diverse voices of nature, where every individual is a participant with a role to play. Just as a rich conversation requires active engagement from every speaker, the duty to protect and preserve our wildlife rests upon us all. Each word spoken, every action taken, is a brushstroke painting the masterpiece of a thriving planet for generations to come."
Q: What can I do to help?
Individuals can contribute significantly to wildlife conservation in several ways. Firstly, raising awareness is crucial. By educating themselves and others about the importance of biodiversity, threatened species, and conservation issues, individuals can inspire action and promote positive change. Supporting conservation organizations through donations or volunteering is another impactful way to help.
Q: What animals are the most threatened?
Over the years animals that have emerged as primary targets by poachers are giraffes, eland antelopes, zebras, Dik-dik and wild pigs.
