In a heartwarming ceremony held at LUMO Conservancy, a beacon of collaboration between Community & Wildlife Conservation and Soroi Lions Bluff Lodge, the community celebrated a significant stride towards education and wildlife conservation. This event marked the awarding of full high-school scholarships to three deserving students from the community, a testament to the commitment of fostering both academic excellence and environmental stewardship.
The distinguished gathering witnessed the presence of Madam Gloria Monikombo, the Chief Executive Committee Member for Education in Taita Taveta County, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Also in attendance were the Sub-county Director of Education for Wundanyi, ACCs Mwatate Sub-county, Assistant Chief Maktau, members of the Conservancy Board of Trustees, and our partners Soroi Lions Bluff Lodge and the Community & Wildlife Conservation Liaison Officer.
Caroline, Joel, and Patrick, the three scholarship recipients, emerged as the second cohort of beneficiaries from a program that was launched just last year. This initiative stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts between various stakeholders, exemplifying the commitment to bridging the gap between conservation and community development.
The scholarship program not only recognizes the intrinsic value of education but also aligns with the core mission of LUMO Conservancy – to forge a sustainable balance between human livelihoods and wildlife conservation. By investing in the education of these promising young minds, the Conservancy aims to empower the community, ensuring that the coexistence of humans and wildlife is not only economically viable but socially relevant.
As we celebrate this momentous occasion, it underscores our collective dedication to creating a future where conservation efforts directly contribute to the holistic development of the community. The ripple effect of educated and empowered individuals within the community promises a brighter and more sustainable coexistence between humanity and the incredible biodiversity LUMO Conservancy strives to protect.
We extend our gratitude to all the partners, community leaders, and supporters who have been instrumental in making this initiative a reality. Together, we are weaving the fabric of a harmonious and mutually beneficial relationship between the people and the wildlife that call LUMO Conservancy home.
